The #ERICFEST: Music

The venue was animated with entertainment. The crowds were cheering and smiling. The speeches were inspirational. What an event!

On Sunday 12th February 2017, the Hospital Club situated in Covent Garden was filled with large crowds of people impatiently waiting to receive their festival wristbands. My brother and I were part of the ‘waiting’ crowd, however, I can honestly say that it was worth the wait. Attending the #ERICFEST really enabled me to grasp an idea of the best elements to incorporate at a networking event.

ERIC is an acronym which stands for:

  • Educational
  • Revolutionary
  • Inspirational
  • Creative

The festival was founded by Mae Yip and Samantha Hornsby in 2016 with the aim to encourage young people to network and broaden their connections, whilst having fun and understanding what fantastic opportunities are out there.

Every year, a different topic from the creative industries is taken on board and this year, it was all about the music industry. C.V. advice stands were provided by the ERIC festival’s partnership company hiive whilst various internship and work experience opportunities were advocated by Warner Music and various other organisations.

I noticed that the hosts were very entertaining which encouraged people to come out of their comfort zones and talk to people. It strongly fulfilled its networking purpose by enabling attendees to take full advantage of the various speeches, shows and networking intervals which were integrated throughout the day. Similarly to the #ERICFEST, I would like to have an enthusiastic host at the #Fusion event, who will entertain the crowds and make people feel welcomed.

Nevertheless, to further my research, I interviewed one of the co-founders of the #ERICFEST who gave me much insight concerning the changes faced by the music industry and the importance of networking events.

The ERIC festival has received a generous amount of positive feedback for their 2017 music industry event. They also have other events coming up in 2017 which are definitely worth looking out for during the year!
